When I am working with real people or fictionalized events, I change the names… usually a lot. I don’t want them getting the wrong idea (that I like or don’t like them more or less than I really do). That is why I seldom want people to know there is a character based on them. It gets messy.

What’s funny is how these two stories are connected, though set 40 years apart. The Skater is NOT a mainline Dixon-Prince story. Part of it takes place before Jack and Amy get together, and Amy never makes an appearance, although Jack does slip in and say hi. But one night, a couple of years ago, I was reading a book that wasn’t particularly good. As a side note here, I have read through some books that were pretty bad. It is a point of pride for me to finish one I start, even if I don’t like it. A handful have been a REAL struggle, but only a couple have forced me to give up. Back to the issue… I was reading a book that wasn’t good. It didn’t completely suck, but it could have been SO much better.
