Twenty seconds later the right front tire of the transport van exploded. Bird Dog had hit it with a .308 round from his sniper rifle. A moment later the rear tire on the passenger side of the van blew from a second shot.

JD watched as his picture was displayed on the screen of the TV. He was standing in the back of a Walmart in western Missouri, where he was trying to buy a few pre-paid phones to use as burners. He’d left his old phone with Wayne. He pulled his hat down low and approached the cashier. He pulled out his wallet and laid out several hundred-dollar bills.
“I need to see ID for the pre-paid phones, Sir,” she said, sounding as bored as she could.
