Before the gun was completely free of the pocket, Gunny had twisted the man’s hand backward and thumbed the safety back on.  The sound of his wrist breaking was clearly heard by all the students.

“No… nothing like that. What he did… I didn’t do that. He was what they call ‘Force Recon’ and what he did was serious work. When things was ugly, they called in the Marines. When the Marines thought things was nasty… they called in Recon. And if what I remember is right, when regular Recon thought it was impossible, they called in his unit.”

“Ok, class, I need everyone to calm down,” Gunny said from the front of the room. To him, the popping that they thought might be fireworks had the distinct sound of an AK-47. He quickly made his way to the door to check out what was going on. He peered first to his left, and then to his right down the hallway, noticing two people in the hallway to the right.

“Very funny, Big Guy,” the girl said as she stretched. Over the next few minutes, the rest of the students joined them outside the gym, ready for their run. “Sergeant Grafton here thinks he might be faster than us,” Tisha informed the group. She was giving him a little good-natured ribbing. “How old are you, like forty-five?”
