Invisible Jack is the next closest to completion work I have in the pipeline. It is sitting around 62k words, but there are a few scenes left to write before it starts getting seriously edited and then goes off to the beat reading team. The idea behind the book is to cover a little of Jack’s struggles with himself as he is a billionaire, but constantly overshadowed by his wife. There were excerpts on Monday and Wednesday this week.
I have been sitting on this a while. I really do like Jack and Amy Dixon. Their story is what started me down this path of writing. But through it all, they have been too clean and to perfect. I knew there had to be something hidden. They needed secrets. They are human… ok, they are imaginary, but still…
From that, I dug into Jack’s basic insecurity… that one thing he can’t control, even with all the money in the world. And it turns out it is a common one. It isn’t Carissa… she is just an attractive diversion. His basic insecurity is that he isn’t worthy of that which he has achieved. He recognizes his wife’s obvious worth, but never his own.
Beyond that, there is something else. So, in the end, Jack and Amy fail to communicate. The result is that each of them are given opportunities to explore relationships outside of their marriage. The question is… how far will each of them go?
Jack’s feelings of inadequacy push him toward a woman that idolizes him. Amy’s push her to work harder and harder, ignoring everyone around her as she struggles to “just do a little more” to show that she is worthy of her professional position. That leads her to ignore her husband. Carissa is there to willingly provide whatever Jack thinks he is missing in his marriage. Of course, Jack sees his wife as strong and capable and refuses to tell her that he feels invisible next to her.
I have been working on parts of this one for over a year. I think it is actually getting close. Not quite done… but the light at the end of the tunnel is in view.
There are several works in the Dixon-Prince series, starting with Planning Vengeance and Dig Two Graves. Amy Prince-Dixon and Jack Dixon are central to a lot of the stories I’ve written. Check out their stories on my Amazon author page.
